We are genetic Gods, but what about our children?

If you want controversy about our future and the moral choices we are making about our species, then look no further than the topic of Biogenetics. Not only has the method of in vitro caused some extreme reactions from the more religiously inclined, but on the horizon we are beginning to see the dawn of the human made in the laboratory. And it’s causing a storm. I would like to take a glance at this subject from an author’s point of view, where my main concern is, what kind of ethics will make up our future, both as parents for our children, and society as a whole.

VR – a redefining technology or heroin for the masses?

With 2017 upon us, Virtual Realiy has been generating a huge buzz for over a year now. Many are saying that this year will be the year when VR finally breaks through into the mainstream. However we choose to look upon this technology, one thing is for sure. It might be just the most disruptive technology to ever appear in our society, one with the potential to change the way we connect, interact and live our lives, forever.

Data Mining – the future of education

The education system is undergoing major changes in every country of the world, due to the datafication of the whole process of education. What are those changes? And what are the pitfalls we might be heading for? Also, will this lead to an increasing effectiveness in the education, or will this cause a more distinct stratification of the children. Those who go on to have a future. And those who don’t.

Digital Footprint – the Big Data generation – part 2 of 2

This time, let’s take a look at some of the technology behind the scenes while we surf, and point out some less than obvious ways that our character traits can be analyzed by the A.I. algorithms. Finally, I would like to come full-circle and conclude how we as parents can make a difference and teach our children how they can filter their behaviour online but still be genuine, and make lasting relationships.

Digital footprint – from cradle to grave

The coming generations who inhabit this planet, will leave an ever growing digital footprint behind themselves. This faces our society with many ethical issues on how to deal with our online privacy. Are we headed into a safer world where total transparency is ubiquitous, where everyone knows everything about the other individual? Or is that just wishful thinking? And we are headed for a nightmarish scenario, one with zero privacy and even less freedom, something which Orwell and many other doomsayers were trying to warn us against.

Venture me out of the Matrix

Two of the silicon Valley’s moguls latest project is to break us out of the Matrix, which they strongly believe exists and has the humanity enslaved. This is a perfect opportunity to look at the intersection of Technology and Spirituality and identify why these tech-billionaires have come to such a conclusion and what lies behind all of this, according to several ancient spiritual traditions.

Data mining our children – the age of no privacy

Did you ever consider the consequences of your online sharing with the family? As innocent and fun as it may be, creating familty ties and bring everyone closer together, has also it’s darker downside. Every one of us is creating a gold mine for the Artifical Intelligence driven algorithms which will drive tomorrow’s online economy. And our children’s privacy is the currency of that economy.

Will Artificial Intelligence explosion lead to massive unemployment?

When most people are in fear of losing their job, it is grounded in today’s realites such as a world wide recession, fercier than ever competition in their successive fields or simple job outsourcing to more economically viable countries. But what I would like to do is to take a look at another factor, one which may be the single biggest impulse for a world wide change in employment rates – technological advances. And to be more precise, I want to put under careful scrutiny how Robots and recent forms of Artificial Intelligence might revolutionize our society through a possible automation of our future jobs.

Will our online privacy be broken forever?

Recent events both in Norway and the US have caused a world wide media storm. On the surface it would seem these two cases are normal criminal proceedings, yet if one looks below the surface and reflects upon the deeper implications of this matter, it becomes quite obvious what is happening now, and why it will have earth shattering consequences for each and one of us. It would also be very naive to think these are some isolated and local issues which concern only the US and Norway when the truth of the matter is this will have impact on the global online community, no matter the launguage nor location. Let’s take a look at what these cases entail and why the future of our and our children’s online privacy is at stake.

We are genetic Gods, but what about our children? (part 2)

If we leave the whole gene therapy out of the equations. Just for a moment. Are we in the clear then? Or come to think of it, do we not make a ton of procreational choices now? Consciously or unconsciously, we do. Are we not prepared to supply our children with all kinds of minerals, vitamins, diet supplements. All this in the name of a healthier future for them. If we go further with this thinking, then the whole raising of our children is actually about these kind of choices. The best of schools, the best toys, and the best teachers, caretakers. All in all the best opportunites we as parents can afford. Who would want to save money on that? Would you?

Smart Homes – empowerment or imprisonment?

A revolution is about to enter our homes any moment now. Whether we like it or not, we are about to be swamped by a myriad of ivisible/invisble elecxtronic appliances which all have one thing in common. Their online activity will be 24/7. How will this impact our lives for better or worse? How will this change our approach to every day life? Will it have a significant impact on our privacy? Are we in danger of the Orwellian 1984 scenario? Becoming prisoners of our most private sphere called home? If so are there any ways to avoid it? Let’s take a look at the brewing revolution and what it will mean to us and our offspring.

The emotional A.I. – A better parent than you?

Sounds like an absurd notion to even consider, doesn’t it? One thing is to let an intelligent machine square off in a battle of chess or the recently won trivia game by the amazing neurolingual “Watson” from IBM, but a whole another matter is leaving your kid with a computer algorithm. Even if the kid would emotionally survive the inital period, would you? Or to put it differently, would you willingly leave your child with an algorithm which at best can only imitate empathy and other subtle human interactions.
